Book bags

We would like to see all book bags everyday. Book bags will be changed every Tuesday and Friday.

We have PE on a Monday and Wednesday. Please keep your PE kits in school and take them home to be washed during our half term break.

What are we learning in Spring 1?

Writing We will be starting the half term by looking at Explanation Texts. We will be looking at the features of Explanation Texts and the purpose of them. We will then move on to focus on ‘Traditional Stories’. Again we will look at the features of these stories but we will have a strong focus on SPAG. We will look at full stops and capital letters, noun phrases, commas in a list and apostrophes. There will also be a big focus on using joined up handwriting and keeping our presentation neat and tidy.

Reading We will be using a range of traditional stories in our Guided Reading sessions. We will have a big focus on learning new vocabulary, using punctuation to assist our reading and inferring what is happening from characters thoughts and actions.

Maths We will be looking at measurement this half term. We will be focusing on measurements of length, mass, capacity, time and money. A key part of our maths lessons this half term is consolidating everything we have learned in Autumn 1 and 2. We will be practising using the number line for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and some of the children will move on to use the expanded column method for addition and subtraction. We will be focusing on using these methods in word problems and explaining how we got our final answers.

Topic This half terms topic is a Geography unit. We are learning all about a Non-European country and we have decided to focus on China. We will locate China on a map and look at physical and human features of this country.

Science This half terms we are looking at living things and their habitats. We are using our forest school to look at habitats and build new habitats. In class, we will be learning about characteristics of living things and what they need to survive.

Art/DT This half term will be looking at Textiles within a unit called ‘Mother Nature designer’.

PE This half term we will be focussing on gymnastics in our two weekly sessions of PE.

RE We will be learning all about Special books and stories from a number of different religions in RE.

The children will continue to have ‘Wake and Shake’ on a Tuesday morning.

PE will be on Monday and Wednesday this half term.

Children will have ‘Outdoor Learning’ on a Monday afternoon and should bring wellies in for this session each week.

Fantastic morning at Liverpool Central Library. We were very lucky to meet Sarah McIntyre and hear her very funny story 'There's a shark in the bath,' The children were very inspired and really enjoyed creating their own sharks.
