Welcome to 1G. Our class teacher is Miss Glenn and our learning support assistant is the wonderful Miss. Niven.

In year 1 we work closely with the Early Years team to ensure a smooth and successful transition from reception. Our year 1 teachers incorporate Early Years Pedagogy into their classroom practice with children regularly accessing high quality provision and play based learning opportunities linked to their age related objectives and outcomes taken from the year 1 National Curriculum.

We are also lucky to have access to a large Year 1 outdoor area, complete with mud kitchen, den, garden and writing hut!

In 1G we do lots of work around emotional well-being and Miss. Glenn and Miss. Niven work hard to ensure the classroom is a safe and nurturing environment where every child feels valued and happy. We love learning new things, challenging ourselves, being creative, having fun and being kind to each other.

Need to know

We have P.E. on Thursday. Children must have a P.E kit which includes a white t-shirt, black shorts and PE pumps. PE kits must be kept in school. We have storage for the children to keep these in school. We also ask that parents label children’s kits and PE bags.

Home Reading Books

In year 1 we expect children to read at home regularly. We ask that parents sign their child’s home reading book to say that they have read with them so that we know they are ready for a new book. If English is not your first language, please feel free to talk about the story or discuss the pictures in your home language. This will support your children’s comprehension and understanding skills.

Homework Books

In 1G we have homework books, which will be sent out on a Friday and should be returned on a Wednesday. Each week your child will have a homework experience linked to our learning. As the year progresses we may send out further homework to support your child’s learning.

Forest School

We are extremely lucky to have forest school every Tuesday! Children must have a pair of wellies in school every Tuesday. They can also be stored in school and we will send them home every half term.

Please follow our class and year group twitter pages as you will see regular update throughout the year.

I look forward to getting to know you and your children more throughout the year
