Learning Together, Respecting Each Other

Welcome to 5H!
I am Miss Hanson, and I feel incredibly lucky to be teaching this wonderful class. I am joined by our fantastic Learning Support Assistant, Mr Hopwood, who supports our learning every day.

In 5H, we work hard, support each other and celebrate all the small steps we take towards big progress.

We believe strongly in our ‘Have a go’ attitude. Whether it’s tackling Maths challenges, trying a new sport, or speaking up in class, we give everything our best effort.

Key Information for 5H

Monday – Swimming
Please ensure your child has their full swimming kit, including a swimming cap.

Friday – PE
Please make sure your child has the correct PE kit.

Reading in 5H

Reading is a huge part of our learning in 5H. We encourage all children to read every night (anything they enjoy). Reading strengthens their vocabulary, imagination and writing skills.

Reading Plus

Children should complete at least 5 Reading Plus lessons each week.
This supports their fluency, stamina and comprehension.

If your child does not have access to a device at home, please speak to me (tablets can be borrowed once school paperwork is completed).

Book Bags

  • Home on Thursday, back on Monday
  • Some children choose to take their book bags home daily
  • Please write a short comment in the blue reading log each time your child reads

We regularly change books to ensure children explore a wide range of genres and authors.

Spellings

Weekly spellings go home on Friday and should be brought back on Monday.

Times Tables Rockstars

In 5H, we love TTRS!
Children should complete at least 5 sessions per week to build confidence and fluency.

Doodle Spell & Doodle Maths

In 5H, we also use Doodle Spell and Doodle Maths to support key skills across the curriculum.
These programmes adapt to each child’s level and help them practise little and often.

We expect all children to be ‘on target’ each week on both apps.
This means completing their assigned daily stars and staying in the green zone.

Regular use at home really boosts confidence, fluency and independence—thank you for supporting your child with this.

After-School Clubs

We love seeing so many 5H children joining clubs, learning new skills and building friendships.
We encourage every child to take part in something they enjoy.

Homework in 5H

  • Reading Plus: 5 lessons
  • TTRS: 5 sessions
  • Doodle Maths & Doodle Spell: Stay on target each week
  • Spellings: Weekly
  • Maths Fluency: Occasionally, depending on weekly learning

Thank you for your continued support- working together makes a huge difference to the children’s progress and confidence.
