Parent Governor Vacancy
Wed 18 Mar 202619th March 2026
PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY
Dear Parents/ Carers,
We have a hardworking team of governors at Kingsley, vital in the school’s continued success. At Kingsley Primary our constitution requires that we have 2 parent representatives as part of our Governing Body.
At present our parent representative is Mrs A. Elmi (parent of pupils in y6, y3 and YR)
Our other previous parent Governor, Ms Z. Hassan has had to resign due to family commitments, so a vacancy has become available.
Would you like to be a parent governor and join our hard working, loyal and committed group? If so you have the opportunity to put yourself forward for election. We look for someone committed to helping our school improve further, to become part of our team! To be eligible for election, parents or carers must have a pupil registered at Kingsley Primary in March 2026. If there is more than one nomination then there will be an election and I will inform you of the procedures.
Parents /Carer Governor role is important and can make an invaluable contribution to the management of the school. They are part of the decision making process which directly affects the quality of education we provide for our children, and are a big part of Ofsted’s judgements about the quality of leadership in the school. If you feel that you can contribute, and can commit to attending at least 2 meetings a term, plus occasional committee meetings and other events, then please consider standing. Regular attendance to all meetings will be a vital requirement. These meetings take place from 3.30pm – 6pm as well as attendance at other events. You must be able to attend regularly, and the expectation is that you prioritise these meetings unless there is an emergency!
Further information which may make the role clearer, is available on request, and all new governors will attend training . A parent governor is elected for a four year term of office, so again , you will need to be able to commit to this.
Nominating Yourself.
Please write a short letter in support of your nomination, which I can circulate to all parents This should tell us something of your experience and the skills or attributes you can bring to the role. This also gives you the opportunity to say something about yourself and why you would make a good governor—this statement is important.
All nominations should be returned to the school office by Friday 27th March 2026, in order to help us move forward quickly.
Following this I will invite all prospective Governors in to discuss the remit of the role and then potentially go out to election for the post, if there is more than one candidate.
Please read the information attached carefully- and only consider nominating yourself if you are able to commit to the requirements of the role.
Many thanks
Commitment
So how much of my time would be taken up by being a Governor at Kingsley School?
At Kingsley School we encourage our Governors to visit the school so that they can get to know the school, its staff and pupils. However, we recognise that people have other demands on their time too. The minimum requirements for a Governor at this school are:
- You will be required to attend two full Governor’s meetings each term (there are three terms) from 3pm-6pm. You should expect to attend every meeting.
- In addition you will be expected to attend a ‘Governor day’ once a year , held in school.
- You will be expected to take part in training held by the local authority as an induction, and at least one other training per year held in school.
- You will be expected to take responsibility for one “Subject” (for example, Literacy, Numeracy, the Arts, safeguarding ) as a Link Governor and meet with the appointed member of staff, who is that subject co-ordinator, at least once a term – again, if you feel you have a particular area of expertise or interest, we would encourage you in that field.
- You will be expected to attend core training and encouraged to attend other training courses to develop your role as a School Governor – these are paid for by the school and take place in evenings and at week-ends as well as during the day, to accommodate anyone who is working.
- You will take part in other events during the school year, also supporting on interview , or other panels.
Other Necessary Requirements
- You will be able to read and understand complex information, including data sets, and reports from the Department of Education. You will be able to ask relevant questions about these and join in discussion.
- You will agree to 100% confidentiality in all of your dealings with school, and be able to balance discretion alongside any social interaction you may have with staff and parents.
- You’ll need to understand your role clearly, a parent Governor gives a parents view on discussions and decisions, they DO NOT speak for or represent parents on individual matters, which still go via the normal channels of school policy and procedure. You’ll need to ensure you are clear about this with other parents who may ask you to do things for them!
- You’ll need to be able to respond to emails , and to receive information via an online platform, as well as committing to reading and preparing a lot of information before a meeting.
- You’ll be interested in education and keen to help our school improve further.
- You be fully committed to all of Kingsley’s ethos and rules and support the school in all of its statutory (legal) responsibilities, including attendance, curriculum, behaviour and financial. This is important. (You may be part of a consultation about policy and procedure, but once agreed, or for anything statutory there is an expectation that all governors will support the school.)
- A clear, enhanced dbs safeguarding check and 2 references from an employer or character referee of social standing.
I know we are asking a lot, but that’s because this is such an important role! Being a Governor is a significant commitment, but it can be very rewarding. If you feel that you could meet the minimum commitments listed above, and would like to support Kingsley School, as it continues to change and improve, then we would like to hear from you!
What to do next:
If you are still interested , please write a short letter of nomination. You should include:
- Your full name and the ages of your children
- Your family or work background, particularly if you feel this has given you skills which would be helpful in the role
- Your commitment to the school’s community and equality ethos
- Your commitment to attending meetings.
- Any particular area of interest or area of school support you feel you could contribute to.
All nominations should come to the school office FAO Mr Moore by Friday 27th March 2026.

Letter from Merseyside Police re Hoax threats to schools
Tue 10 Mar 2026Dear Parents,
I wanted to write to thank you all so much for your amazingly calm and considered behaviour this week following some scares on social media about bomb threats in schools – which were false.
Unfortunately, someone has been putting out untrue , hoax information, which has been shared really irresponsibly on social media, and put a lot of people into a state of unnecessary panic.
We sent out a text message to reassure parents as soon as we heard that rumours were circulating. Thankfully , Kinglsey parents behaved rationally and calmly and there was very little disturbance here. As you know we keep in regular communication with the police whenever there is any concern, and we regularly practice lockdown and other safety drills here. Should there ever be any concern we will communicate with you speedily ourselves and not rely on facebook or other platforms to spread the word!
I have a message below from Merseyside Police that I wanted to share.
UPDATE: REPORT OF MALICIOUS COMMUNICATIONS AT SCHOOLS
Superintendent Karl Baldwin said: “We are aware of the concern that was caused yesterday, following emails containing malicious communications being received by multiple schools.
“We are continuing to investigate to identify the person, or persons, responsible. We urge everyone not to share information that you do not know to be true. The matter is being treated as a hoax.
“I would like to extend my thanks to our schools, and partners, for their support yesterday, and the calmness with which the matter was dealt with.
“There have been no additional reports received by Merseyside Police and schools are open as usual today. You may see a heightened police presence in and around school areas. This is purely to provide support and reassurance and is in no way an indication that we consider there to be any real-world threat to any school.
“If you have any further concerns or require additional support or advice, please stop and speak to any police officer or contact us via our online reporting tool”.
Kind regards,
Mrs A. Whittaker, Head Teacher.

PHSE Meeting Letter
Tue 24 Feb 202624th February 2026
Parents of all pupils- PHSE Meeting
Dear Parents,
From September 2026 the Government have planned some changes to the curriculum area of Personal, Social , Health, and Economic Education in Schools. This includes Relationships Education.
We have reviewed our existing policy in line with this change, and wanted to offer parents the opportunity to come in to find out about how we teach this subject throughout the school. You can also see lesson planning, and materials on our website, but this meeting may also be a useful opportunity for you to view pupils books and ask questions.
The meeting will be held in the school hall, and we will share an overview of legislation (the law) and how this works in Kingsley’s policies and Teaching and learning.
The meeting is only open to parents or named carers of pupils in Kingsley Primary.
It will take place on 24th March 2026 at 9.15am (please note , we reserve the right to not admit anyone who arrives after 9.25am as this is can be disruptive to the meeting)
Please use the slip below to book your place at this session.
Kind regards,

Fasting Letter January 2026
Tue 03 Feb 2026
Dear Parents,Ramadan is soon approaching, so I wanted to write to everyone as early as possible to remind you about our arrangements for our older pupils who may want to fast.
Our fasting policy, which was written in conjunction with other local schools and parents, is available from the school office, or the parents section of our school website.
Our full policy is available for everyone, however these sections give particular guidance:
Years 5 and 6 children
For Years 5 and 6 children who do choose to fast during Ramadan, the following arrangements will be put in place:
• Children who are fasting will go directly to a designated classroom at lunchtime for quiet time, completing calm, quiet activities e.g. reading, drawing, quiet talking with friends or quiet reflective time. Please note that if a child’s behaviour does not meet with the school’s expectations during this time, the parent/carer will be asked to make alternative arrangements and take the child home during that time. If a child is unwell, the parent/carer will be contacted to collect him/her.
• The children will go outside for morning playtime in order to get fresh air.Years 3 and 4 children
It is very unusual for children in y3 and 4 to fast in Kingsley, and we would ask parents to carefully consider the appropriateness of allowing their young children to fast during the school day. However, for those Years 3 and 4 children who wish to fast, the school asks parents to consider allowing just one or two days per week or just the weekends, and also to consider their child not fasting on days where they have PE or swimming in school.
Key Stage 1 and Reception Children
Due to the age of the children in Reception, and key stage 1 the school cannot allow them to fast during the school day.Permission to Fast
We have also made it easier for parents to give permission, by including a simple proforma to be completed by parents. This MUST be completed and returned to school if you want your child to fast. These forms can be requested from the class teacher or the office.School has to staff supervision for pupils who are fasting in a different way to normal lunchtime duties. School also spends a lot of money completely funding a hot meal for every child at lunchtime- we do not want to pay for food and get it prepared only to see children refuse it and it to go to waste. For these reasons it is VITAL that you inform us of any plans you have for your child to fast, so that we can plan accordingly.
I hope this means that as parents you know exactly how we plan to support the children during this important time, and can prepare accordingly. It is very important that if you wish your child to fast at any point in the year, you read this policy and seek permission from school .
You can view the policy in two ways either by:
1. Looking in the Parents section of our school website (www.kingsley.liverpool.sch.uk)
2. Or coming in person to the school office and requesting a hard copy.
Many thanks for your help in this matter.Ms A. Whittaker, Head Teacher.

Letter To EYFS Parents from Sir Kier Starmer
Mon 08 Sep 2025Prime Minister's letter to parents and carers on Best Start in Life
mediaofficer, 4 September 2025 - Uncategorized
Dear Parent/Carer,
Across England, millions of children and families are beginning a new school year.
As a father of two, I know well the pride and joy of watching your children grow up. But I also understand how juggling parenthood, work and other responsibilities can sometimes be difficult especially when the cost-of-living is still tough, childcare is expensive, and your time is tight.
Supporting families is at the heart of our Plan for Change. Over the past year we have started to deliver the change promised – new help designed to make your life easier and give your children the best possible start.
We are making high quality childcare more affordable by introducing 30 hours of government-funded childcare during term time, from the end of parental leave to the start of primary school, saving an average working parent up to £7,500 per year – money that stays in your pocket for
your family's needs. We are making family life easier too, with hundreds of school-based nursery places opening this September, and thousands more to come. This means more families can access government-funded childcare and perhaps manage with just one school run in the morning. This comes alongside expanding wraparound childcare available to you outside of school hours, including a free Best Start Breakfast Club which we will be rolling out in every primary
school. We are proud to build on the legacy of Sure Start through our Best Start Family Hubs, a growing network of welcoming spaces. Families can access a wide range of support and services to make the journey of being a parent a little easier – from expert advice on feeding your baby to how to support your toddler’s learning and development at home.
Of course, this is just the beginning. This government will keep building support for you and your family to help make parenting easier and ensure no child’s background dictates what they go on to achieve. I know that this is also a priority for local MPs and councils, who can provide more information about what is available in your area. I encourage you to get in touch with
them directly. To find out more about the support available to you and your family, including free breakfast clubs, eligibility for childcare offers, Best Start Family Hubs in your area and support with your child’s early health and learning, visit our new site that brings this all together in one place: www.BestStartinLife.gov.uk.
I also wanted to thank you, the parents and carers, and the grandparents, as well as the childminders, early educators, teachers and health workers, for all you do to give children the best start in life.Nothing will stop me in my mission to back families like yours through our Plan for Change, to build a better future for you, for your children, and for Britain.
All best wishes,
Keir Starmer

Y6 parents meeting for Secondary school applications
Wed 03 Sep 2025Head Teacher: Mrs A Whittaker
3rd September 2026
Meeting About Secondary Schools.
Dear Parent/Carer of pupils in Year 6,
I am writing with regard to the primary school to secondary school transfer procedure for September 2026. I hope everyone has been giving this matter some thought and that you have read the information booklet from the council that was sent home in July. Its quite early in the term, but I know how important it is to get this choice right!
Those of you who are interested in selective schools should have checked out their websites, made visits and made any arrangements you need to for exams. These arrangements change every year and you will need to contact the school itself to find out how they are arranging admissions. This is particularly important for :
Bellerive St Hilda’s
Belvedere St Margret’s
Blue Coat King David
Liverpool College Archbishop Blanche
Other schools are community schools and you will apply through the local authority for them.
Further information on how to apply and the wider admissions process can be found online through the Liverpool City Council website at www.liverpool.gov.uk/admissions
We will be holding a meeting on Wednesday 10th September at 9.10am .
This will help guide you through the application process and give our advice based on past experiences. Please make every effort to attend, as every year we find families who don’t seek advice from us whose children do not get their choice of school.
It is really important that you attend this meeting this week, otherwise it’s very difficult for us to help you later in the process. We have children every year who do not get a school because parents do not follow the process smartly! Please do not be one of those parents!
We will also have staff on hand this term to help you, and you can make an appointment for this via the main school office. If you can’t attend the meeting for any reason, please make sure you book an appointment to get advice from Mrs Ahmed or Ms Yafai, before you send off paperwork in October.
I look forward to seeing you on the 10th.
Kind regards,
Alison Whittaker, Head Teacher.

Love Jasmine Charity Fundraising Day
Tue 25 Feb 2025Dingle Granby Toxteth Love Jasmine Day
Dear Parents and Carers,
On Wednesday 5th March several local schools in this area are holding a fund- raising day to help raise money for a local Charity that many of our community have received support from.
All of the children (and staff) are invited to wear their own clothes and to bring a donation for the charity.
The charity is a local one, set up by the parents of Jasmine Lapsley in 2016 to support other families who had lost a child. Jasmine’s death meant that they experienced first hand what support services were and were not available. They then set out to improve the support that was available to bereaved families in the Merseyside area.
The Charity provides bereavement support to families who have lost a child of any age from 20 weeks gestation to adulthood. They take an holistic approach to the support they provide and understand that everyone deals with their grief and trauma in their own way.
As I have said before, there are so many deserving charities and so many calls for support for those in need all over the world, but this charity has helped many Liverpool families in the past, and is a local organisation close to the hearts of schools in the local network, so I hope we can support it.
I know that Love Jasmine have helped to make a difference to those going through the most unimaginable loss, and I hope you will join us in helping them out by raising some funds for the organisation. If you can spare a £1, or anything you can, we would be very grateful.
Many thanks for your help and support,
Alison Whittaker, Head Teacher.

Y6 Deodorant letter
Fri 13 Dec 2024Year 6 hygiene initiative
As part of our commitment to the wellbeing and personal development of our pupils, we are pleased to inform you that the school will be providing each Year 6 pupil with their own alcohol-free roll-on deodorant. This will be kept in their individual trays within school. This is something that we have discussed with the children, all of which seemed keen/ pleased by this proposition.
There are several reasons for this initiative:
- Curriculum Support: Personal hygiene forms an important part of the Year 6 PSHE curriculum. We aim to equip pupils with practical tools and habits that support their understanding of this topic.
- Encouraging Positive Habits: Upper KS2 is a key time for developing good hygiene practices. By introducing this as a routine in school, we hope to encourage lifelong healthy habits, which will promote personal care and well-being as the children enter adolescence and adulthood.
- Promoting Confidence and Independence: School is a very active environment, and we are proud to provide pupils with opportunities to stay engaged in physical activities throughout the school day. With this in mind, we want to empower our older pupils to take responsibility for managing some of their own hygiene needs. By supporting them to develop independence in this area, we aim to boost their confidence and help them feel more comfortable during the school day.
The deodorant provided will be alcohol-free, gentle on young skin, and carefully chosen with allergen sensitivity in mind. It has come to our attention that some children, particularly in Year 6, have started bringing fragranced products to school, especially on PE days. As some of these items are packaged in glass, or are in aerosol form, they pose a potential safety risk. We kindly request that parents ensure children do not bring these products to school to help maintain a safe environment for everyone.
If you have any questions or concerns about this initiative or if your child has specific needs or sensitivities we should be aware of, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Your child could alternatively bring in their own roll-on deodorant from home, if they would prefer rather than the one provided free of charge from school.
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring that our pupils develop both academically and personally in a safe, nurturing environment.
Yours sincerely,
Ms A. Whittaker, Head Teacher.
