Red Room
Red Room
Welcome to Red Room!
Red room is our three year old provision that supports your child from the starting point of their education right up to preparing them for reception and beyond.
Our room is led by our teacher Miss Jenny and we have lots of amazing LSA's that help us to learn they are- Miss Margie, Miss Amanda, Miss Sarah and Miss Rose.
In Red Room we love to learn through play and experiences as this is the best way for our little minds to grow and learn how to figure things out for ourselves.
To begin with we concentrate mainly on the three prime areas-
- communication and language
- personal, social and emotional development
- physical development
Working on the above areas supports us within the other four specific areas and as we grow in confidence in nursery we begin to also work on these-
- literacy
- mathematics
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design
We ask all parents to please provide us with a change of underwear and clothes (also nappies and wipes if your child still needs these) that can be kept in school. These things go into your childs purple bag which stays on their peg and has their picture on it, ensuring no-one else uses them.
Your child will also bring home a 'book' bag each Friday to be shared together at home, we encourage you to make a note in their reading log to let us know if they enjoyed the story and to make any comments about discussions you may have had following the book. Book bags must be returned by Thursday for us to be able to change your child's book so you have a new one ready to share for the weekend.
While in Red Room we learn so many valuable skills that will help make our journey through school and life so much easier but we also have lots of messy fun along the way!
Throughout the year we will cover and explore a range of topics such as- This is me, seasons and change, people that are special to us, people who help us, animals, mini beasts to name a few. We will also learn all about each others families, homes, cultures and celebrations which are all very important to us in Red Room.
Things you need to know
What should my child wear?
Children in Red room will get messy! We play with water, mud and sand as well as other sensory resources so please ensure your child wears black joggers or black leggings along with their purple Kingsley jumper or cardigan with a white polo shirt under is so that they can fully engage in these types of activities in both the indoors and outdoors learning time.
ALWAYS send your child to school with a coat. Please make sure that your child comes into school with a warm coat, preferably a waterproof one so that they can keep dry whilst playing outside in the cold and wet weather.
Change of clothes – Please bring in a spare set of clothes and underwear so that we can change your children’s clothes if needed.
Footwear
Wellington boots
It is really important that your child has a set of wellington boots in school. This is so they have suitable footwear for playing out in the sand, rain and mud!
Trainers and outdoor shoes are THE BEST footwear for your child to wear in school as they will allow your child to move and play whilst protecting their feet.
Hat and gloves
For the cold months and a hat/cap for the warm months to help keep our heads protected no matter what the weather.
Forest school – Every Wednesday
We love Forest School! Please make sure that your child comes into school wearing their uniform and wellies if they are not already in school.
Book bags and reading books
Please bring your child’s reading book and book bag in by Thursday. We will change your books and record what you have read and issue your child with a new book to take home each Friday. The books that you will receive are WORDLESS books. These books are a wonderful tool to help you support your child when telling the story of what they can see and what they think is happening. Please sit with your child and read the book with them.
