5H
Learning Together, Respecting Each Other
My name is Mrs Hunter and I am the teacher for 5H this year alongside our amazing learning support assistant Mr Sygrove
Year 5 pupils will be expected to work really hard throughout the year completing class work, homework and online resources.
In our class we are encouraged to make mistakes and celebrate our mistakes throughout our learning because we know that we learn from our them.
We adopt a ‘Have a go’ attitude. This attitude learning will help us achieve our goals.
Key information –
Monday – Swimming (Please ensure your child has the correct kit – including a swimming cap)
Friday - PE (Please ensure your child has the correct kit)
Reading
We love reading at Kingsley and encourage all children to read for pleasure every night. Reading is a gateway into all aspects of the curriculum. It supports the development of English fluency and writing skills.
Reading Plus
Reading Plus is a fantastic way to improve reading ages and comprehension skills. We ask children to complete at least 5 Reading Plus lessons per week for homework, though many children do much more than this!
If you do not have access to a tablet/computer at home please come and see me as we do allow children to borrow these from school if paperwork is filled out.
Book Bags - Please return book bags each day
Please try and read with your child and talk about the books they enjoy. Whilst we encourage reading at home as much as possible, we will regularly change the books to ensure children are reading a wide range of texts/genres.
Please bring book bags to school every day so the adults can read with your child.
Spellings
Each week on a Friday the children will take home spellings which they are to complete and bring back on the Monday.
Times Tables Rockstars
TTRS is a fantastic way to improve timetables fluency.
You can compete with others, play in garage mode and check your fluency in soundcheck mode.
Please encourage your children to engage with this fantastic online learning resource. Practise makes perfect!
After School Clubs
We encourage children to take part in all our after school club activities as a way to relax but to also learn the importance of team work and providing a wide variety of new skills.
Our aim is to ensure all children have an opportunity to attend some of our exciting after school clubs we have to offer here at Kingsley.
Homework
Reading Plus – At least 5 books to be completed
TTRS – At least 5 sessions per week to be completed
Spellings – weekly
Maths – Fluency sheets to practice skills learned that week (only occasionally)
If you have any other questions, the adults in 5H will be happy to help.
