Autumn 1 newsletter
Mon 12 Sep 2022START OF TERM NEWS:
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer. Its been lovely to welcome everyone back this week -even though you have had to queue a bit for jumpers!
So welcome back. And a special big welcome to all of the new pupils in Early Years and throughout the school and their parents.
As well as welcoming you all I want to take the opportunity to give you some reminders about things happening in school this term, and to update you on a few changes.
Results
Being successful at school is about far more than exam results- but I do want to share some of these with you. We have lots of tests in school that we have to do as they are statutory, but the ones in y6 are important in particular because they give both a standard for pupils in reading , writing and maths, but also a progress measure, which we believe is the most important thing. We are still awaiting final verification but it looks as though last years’ year six results were in line with National average in every subject, not only that but they look like they will be in the top 20% of the country for progress. We are delighted with this and so proud of the pupils. This means they are ready for their next stage, ready to access all lessons in secondary school, and ready to succeed. It is particularly pleasing when I consider that most of these children have English as an additional language, or joined school at a late date. The pupils should be commended for their hard work and resillience, but so should all of their parents and all the staff who have taught them during their time at Kingsley. We place great store on keeping our pupils safe and happy , but I am also very pleased that our strong focus on academic achievement has also born fruit. Well done everyone!
Building Work
As well as our amazing new classrooms , which you saw finished at the end of term, we have also had classroom extensions put in in year2 to give the children a larger teaching space and allow for extended provision. We are also very excited by our new Design and Technology room which is the extension you can see to the right of the front of the school. Both of these projects were planned pre- Covid, so its been a long wait! Our site team and the builders deserve massive thanks and credit for getting two big jobs completed before the children returned. That is potentially the last of the big building projects we will do for a while, I think that we will need to keep our eye on the budget as we move into the Winter and next year, along with everyone else in the country.
New staff
We have several new staff who have joined our team this year, both in the classrooms and in school administration. I want to take he opportunity to introduce you to our new office team in particular. They are a larger team than we have had previously and I hope that once they get to know the school, it means we are able to support you and the staff and pupils far more effectively. Please bear with us whilst everyone learns the ropes. I have to say that all of the new staff have already spoken to me to say how lovely our parents are and how amazingly well behaved our pupils are. I already know this, but its great to have it confirmed by those new to Kingsley.
In the office now you will find:
Mr Moore- School Business Manager with responsibility for large areas of school finance, systems and personnel
Ms Williams- finance officer
Ms Fearnley- Pupil admin officer ( new admissions, pupil information etc.)
Ms Doherty – receptionist and your usual first port of call for any help or advice.
Our existing pastoral team are also still involved in some administration in the school, particularly attendance, family support and translation, so you will still be able to access them via the school office.
Breakfast club
Children who wish to attend should arrive at the main entrance at 8.15am. Breakfast club costs only 30p a day, which can be paid daily, or as a weekly amount of £1.50. Pupils will be offered toast, cereal and a drink to set them up for the day. You do not need to book your child’s place at the moment, we will only need to consider this if numbers increase dramatically. We do, however insist that pupils should arrive between 8.15 and 8.30am or they may not be allowed admittance.
Uniform.
- Tie years 3-6
- Dark grey trousers or skirt
- Black shoes
- Black or purple hijab
- Purple sweatshirt or cardigan
- White polo shirt in years R to 2
- NO JEWELERY please! (Apart from small flat stud ear rings)
As per my letter in July we have expected all pupils to return to school wearing correct school uniform. PLEASE write their name in their tie and in ALL school uniform. Staff do not have the time to sort through the large number of items which are lost or discarded by children every day, and who do not have their name in. We have over 500 pupils at Kingsley- can you imaging trying to allocate unnamed lost sweatshirts to even 10% of these pupils?? It can not be done, so we need to place the responsibility on you putting your child’s name in them.
The school uniform has always been very simple here at Kingsley and there should be no misunderstanding or ambiguity. Please note that we will be picking up on every single student who is not wearing the correct uniform on day one and asking them to fix this for day two. We will also speak to parents on the door if this remains a concern. The main issue for most schools at the start of a new year is often trainers being worn instead of shoes. Trainers are NOT part of school uniform, neither are tracksuit tops.
Please make sure that your child has the correct PE kit to bring to school with them this year.
PE kits
- plain black shorts or jogging bottoms
-
-
-
- Plain white t shirt
- Trainers or pumps.
- Students will not be able to come to school wearing PE kit on days when they have PE
-
-
-
We will keep spare PE kits in school for children who fail to bring the correct kit into school, or whose parents do not discuss any reasons for this with us. We will also have spare pumps in school for those who come in wearing trainers rather than shoes.
Attendance
Whilst we will always be understanding of the complex circumstances some families face, we firmly believe that school is the best environment for children to thrive in and that only a very high level of attendance will ensure that they able to be happy, develop well and make good academic progress.
For this reason and because we are being asked to do so by the DfE, we are firm with regard to attendance levels and expectations. It something I always talk to new parents about and discuss at every new Reception intake meeting. We expect excellent attendance, and if your child comes to our school , we expect that you support us in this. Holidays in term time have caused us particular concern again this year. Please remember that term time holidays are never allowed, and you are very likely to be fined for them, or have contact from the Liverpool Education Welfare Team. Good school attendance is a local and national priority and we all have to take it seriously. We will always help parents with this whenever we can, so always talk to us if you are struggling.
This will also be the case with punctuality. Please support us in ensuring that your child is regularly turning up to school on time. Those who miss the start of the school day, even by just a few minutes each day, are losing out on valuable education, key messages and the chance to start the day well.
Immunisation
You will shortly be getting some information about the flu immunisation programme for all school children. I am delighted that this year I have finally managed to make arrangements for both the traditional nasal immunisation alongside the non – porcine inoculation. Some of you will know I have been asking the NHS to support this at Kingsley for a number of years, as I know the traditional immunisation is something that many in our community feel that they can not take. I understand that now, families at Kingsley will be able to chose which type to give their child and this will come alongside consent forms that we will send out shortly. This is not a school programme, it is run by the NHS. We are asked to support them as a partner agency by offering a room and helping with communication. I have been asking for this for sometime, so now that its possible, I hope many more of you will take the opportunity to consider the immunisation as we go into the flu season!
Parking
Most of you will know that it’s a bad idea to park anywhere near the main entrances to the
school at start and finish times. It creates real problems in terms of gridlock and safety for
children and other school users. However, many parents did chose to drop children off at the gates in Eversley street in particular, sometimes in the middle of the road. We were informed that this has been designated a council ‘hot spot’ and we hope that officers will shortly be present and patrolling the area to ensure safety. I ask this regularly, but here is my annual plea: please don’t park too near to the school.
We entirely understand that many of your will want to be with your child as they make their way into school but we would be really grateful if you could park a reasonable distance from the school and walk the rest of the journey to the gates before bidding them farewell! Dropping them off mid road, and just watching them from your car is particularly concerning and not fair on the staff at the gate who then feel responsible for road safety. I would really appreciate your help in this matter as I get a lot of complaints from local residents and concerned parents about this- I have a lot of things to do as a Head Teacher, but being traffic controller shouldn’t be one of them!
Dates
There have been some recent changes because of the Bank Holiday announced for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth.
19th September- Bank Holiday- School closed

Finally, good luck to you all for the year ahead. I can honestly say that the atmosphere in school this term is incredibly positive. The school is calm and purposeful and everyone is determined to continue with our ethos of kindness and high aspirations for all. Thank you for your continued support in this. I say it every year, but children flourish in school when there is a true partnership with parents, keeping children safe, supporting where we can , celebrating successes and being on the same page when improvements are needed. I look forward to this continuing this academic year.
Kind regards,
Mrs A Whittaker, Head Teacher.

End of Term News
12th July 2022.
Dear Parents/ Carers,
The end of term is nearly here so with that in mind I want to say a final few thankyous, give a final few updates and reminders about the end of term and the new school year in September.
Arrangements for this week are as follows:
- School finishes at 12.30pm on Friday 15th July. Please make sure you collect your child promptly, we have building work taking place over the Summer and need to prepare the school.
- Y6 Leavers service is at 4pm on Thursday 14th, y6 parents are welcome to attend.
- children will be bringing some of their books home this week for you to look at or keep, should you wish
Free Uniform for September.
As I told you in my last newsletter, we are giving every child in school a jumper or cardigan to start the new term with. This will help keep pupils smart for the new term, and hopefully help everyone out a little in these challenging times. We have ordered stocks of uniform, but only have a certain amount available at the moment. If you want to collect your item this week, please come to the main school office, MORNINGS ONLY and ask for Ms Lee, who will supply you with items and sign you off on our list. If the size you need is not yet available, please collect it on 1st September when school is open for staff training.
September
- School is open for children on Monday 5th September.
- School uniform sales Friday 1st September 9am- 12pm ONLY.
As I told you last week , we have an almost entirely , brand new office team starting work here in September, please bear with us for the first week or so whilst everyone finds their feet.
On the first day please bring your children to the school gates as usual, at home time you can collect from their new classrooms, so make sure you check out where they are now!
SATs and all that ….
I hope you know that Kingsley school is about far more than testing and academic results. Our children make phenomenal progress in our school, and its this that we have always been most proud of. However I have to give a shout out to all of those pupils who have done formal, national tests this year. In particular year 4 and year 6 , who have to just do a test, with no teacher assessment and in quite strict ‘exam ‘ conditions. Year 4 did the first Multiplication table checker and we have been astounded by their results. No national data is yet available, but talking to local schools, our pupils seem to have done amazingly well- thanks to all of you who supported TT Rockstars at home!
Year 6 results also need some mention. We have had one of the most mature, hardworking and kind groups of children go through year 6 this year and their progress is, as usual through the roof ( we expect to be at least in the top 10% of the country again for progress measures.) However its not just progress that they are celebrating, but also standards, which at the moment, look to be equal to National in Reading and Maths. When you consider how many pupils have completed these tests in a second language , it’s staggering. I won’t be able to publish results until they have all been formally verified in the Autumn, but we are immensely proud of them.
Thankyou
Finally I want to say an enormous and sincere thankyou to all of the staff at Kingsley. The last 2 and a half years have been very difficult. Lockdowns, remote learning and teaching face to face when no one else seemed to be in work has been challenging. The NHS , quite rightly, got a lot of praise during these times, but school staff got very little. Let me tell you, it has been very hard for some of us, and that has quickly been forgotten about. It is no surprise that many staff have left working in school, nationally and in Kingsley as its been a very tough time. What no one will tell you is that from last September, staff at Kingsley also had to contend with the expectation here to work even harder to make up for the lost learning, and social opportunities for all of our pupils. I hope you have noticed the amazing amount of trips, visitors, workshops and opportunities that Kingsley staff have put on for our pupils this academic year. I hope you have also noticed our expectation that we enable everyone to catch up on missed learning. I hope you have noticed the numbers of additional staff school employed to boost learning and to cover significantly high staff absences so that your children did not miss out any more.
I’m immensely proud of our school, of our pupils and our community, but I have to say , I have never been more proud of staff in any school I have worked in. They have done an outstanding job this year, and its because of them , along with your support , that our pupils have done so well.
All that remains is for me to wish everyone a lovely Summer, we look forward to seeing you all in September.
Kind regards,
Alison Whittaker, Head Teacher.

End of testing letter to parents April 2022
Tue 05 Apr 2022End of testing letter to parents
1st April 2022
Dear Parent / Carer,
We are now all learning to live safely with COVID-19. From 1st April 2022, the government has changed the rules on accessing tests for COVID-19. As a result of this, they have removed the current COVID-19 guidance for schools and replaced it with more generic guidance:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/people-with-symptoms-of-a-respiratory-infection-including-covid-19
As we move into this next phase, schools will continue to be asked to have a baseline of control measures in place such as ensuring occupied spaces are well-ventilated, and reinforcing good hygiene practices such as hand washing and cleaning.
Updated guidance from the government states that whilst it is not recommended that children and young people are tested for COVID-19 unless directed to by a health professional, if they were to test positive, they should not come into school and try to isolate for 3 days after the day they took the test. After 3 days, if they are well enough, they can return to school.
Children and young people with mild symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, or slight cough, who are otherwise well, can continue to attend school.
Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people, where they can. They can go back to school and resume normal activities when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend.
Through this next phase, we will continue to work with schools to support them and advise them when they may need to implement additional controls.
Vaccination is still the best way to keep everyone including children and young people safe. Please check the latest information on who can have a COVID-19 vaccination and how to get it here: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/
Local drop-in clinics: https://www.liverpoolccg.nhs.uk/drop-in-vaccination.
Thank you for your support.
Yours Sincerely,
Matt Ashton

COVID GUIDELINES UPDATE:
From 1st April the Government have further relaxed guidelines around Covid.
I wanted to make sure we clarify what we will continue to expect parents and carers to support us with from now on.
The Government have removed access for testing for most people. However it will still be really important to try and reduce any spread of Covid, both for the health of our community, and for us as a school, in order to limit the number of staff who may get ill and be off work, as this creates difficulties for everyone.
From 1st April:
If your child is unwell and has a HIGH TEMPERATURE ( above 38 degrees, or hot to the touch on their body- not forehead) then they should stay off school until they do not have a high temperature and are well again.
If your child does not have a high temperature, then they can attend as long as you feel they are well enough, as they would normally. It seems likely that there will be peaks in the virus in the general population again, and possibly testing will be reintroduced, but for now it has been removed.
We have been quite concerned about pupil attendance this year, and want to do our utmost to make sure children are in school, learning and socialising with their pers. However, I think it is sensible to still exercise some caution, and I want to thank you all for your continued support in this matter.
Kind regards,
Alison Whittaker,

Ramadan Arrangements.
Dear Parents/ Carers,
As we approach a special time of year for many of our families and pupils, we would like to let you know our arrangements for Ramadan.
We know that many of our pupils like to join in with many of the activities that they see their parents and older siblings doing. One such activity is taking part in the fast.
In the past we have allowed a small number of older pupils in school to fast during the school day. A very small number of year 6 pupils, who have reached puberty, have been supported to fast or part fast on certain days. This is due to quite carefully considered safety reasons and particularly as not drinking during the day can cause many problems with concentration, energy levels, and with being able to join in all of their learning..
We will be able to offer year 6 pupils our support to fast this year, should they want to. These pupils will need to bring in a letter, signed by their parent or carer which gives permission for them to fast during the school day. Y6 pupils who fast will only be able to do this on a day that they do not have a PE lesson. On these days children will NOT be able to fast.
Please talk to your child about this and let them know that for younger children it is very problematic for us to support fasting in school. I know that many pupils are able to feel that they are taking part, by part fasting, either during the evening or at weekends, under your supervision.
We are also planning to host our last inset day of the year to coincide with Eid if we can. This is likely to be around the May bank holiday weekend, but I will confirm as soon as I can! In addition we are planning an extra special Eid Party on the yard this year on the 6th May. I will send more details nearer the time.
We really appreciate your help in this matter.
Kind regards,
Mrs Whittaker

Dear Parents, 30th March 2022
Is it just me, or is the year really flying by? I can’t believe we are nearly ready for Easter holidays. School has been so busy this term, with most things now steadily getting back to normal. This has made us all feel much more positive, and the great weather has helped to!
In terms of Covid, we are still operating a risk assessment in school, even though in the rest of the world things seem to have gone completely back to normal! This has meant we still keep some year groups separate, and we haven’t had the whole school back together for assemblies yet. I hope we will get back to this in April. As I told you last time, we have had real challenges with staffing this term, and I know of several schools whose staff have been hit so badly they have had temporary closures. We have managed fairly well here, everyone has mucked in and been really flexible which has helped us no end. It is also a help that you have all supported the school by keeping your children at home when they have been ill. This is a fine line- we don’t want children to be at home unless they really have to be, as their good attendance is so vital to their progress, as well as their well being and social skills. Good attendance is something we are going to really focus on again after Easter.
On this note, you will see that there is a list of dates for next academic year on the reverse of this letter. We still have 3 inset days to add, which have not been decided yet. Please can I remind you that these holidays should be plenty enough for you to take your family holiday during the time school is closed. We have been terribly affected by pupils being absent from school this year due to family holidays. It may be tempting, but it really is to the detriment of the child’s education and is never authorised by school.
Our new website has finally launched! It is still being filled on a daily basis, and our twitter feed needs to be linked, but otherwise it is looking much more useful than the old one. Please take the time to check it out at:
www.kingsley.liverpool.sch.uk or follow us on Twitter at @KingsleyLpool
Finally, I have attached some other dates for your diary below:
End of Spring term- Friday 8th April 12.30pm
(Please note there are NO Nursery sessions in the morning or afternoon on the 8th)
Children return to school - Monday 25th April
Eid Party- More details to follow! Friday 6th May
Jubilee Party- More details also to follow! Friday 27th May
Half Term- school closed- 30th May- 3rd June.
We have a final inset day to arrange for this year, which we usually have to coincide with Eid. Once I have confirmed this date I will let you know, but it will be around the May holiday weekend.
Kind regards,
Mrs A. Whittaker (Head Teacher)

Whole School Covid Assessment March 2022
Tue 01 Mar 2022Here is the up-to-date Whole School Covid Risk Assessment:
