5R
Learning Together, Respecting Each Other
My name is Miss Rice and I am the teacher for 5R this year alongside our amazing learning support assistants Mrs Wilson and Mrs Brown.
Year 5 pupils will be expected to work really hard throughout the year completing class work, homework and online resources.
In our class we are encouraged to make mistakes and celebrate our mistakes throughout our learning because we know that we learn from our them.
We adopt a ‘Have a go’ attitude. This attitude learning will help us achieve our goals.
Key information –
Monday – Swimming (Please ensure your child has the correct kit – including a swimming cap)
Friday - PE (Please ensure your child has the correct kit)
Reading
We love reading at Kingsley and encourage all children to read for pleasure every night. Reading is a gateway into all aspects of the curriculum. It supports the development of English fluency and writing skills.
Reading Plus
Reading Plus is a fantastic way to improve reading ages and comprehension skills. We ask children to complete at least 3 Reading Plus lessons per week for homework, though many children do much more than this!
If you do not have access to a tablet/computer at home please come and see me as we do allow children to borrow these from school if paperwork is filled out.
Book Bags - Please return books each week.
Please try and read with your child and talk about the books they enjoy. Whilst we encourage reading at home as much as possible, we will regularly change the books to ensure children are reading a wide range of texts/genres.
*Please return books Every Monday. These will be sent home Every Friday. (some children do opt to take their bookbags home every night)
*We would ask all parents/carers to listen to their children read and make a comment in the blue home reading log.
Spellings
Each half term the children will be given a spelling pack that will last them the entire half term – they will be reminded weekly which spellings we are practicing and spelling tests will be done every Monday. They will be practicing Year 5/6 spelling curriculum words alongside tricky words/high frequency words and homophones. Children are given a chance to review these each week but must also use their weekends to practice – Please remind children to keep these spelling packs in their book bags so they can practice both in school and at home.
Times Tables Rockstars
TTRS is a fantastic way to improve timetables fluency.
You can compete with others, play in garage mode and check your fluency in soundcheck mode.
Please encourage your children to engage with this fantastic online learning resource. Practise makes perfect!
After School Clubs
We encourage children to take part in all our after school club activities as a way to relax but to also learn the importance of team work and providing a wide variety of new skills.
This term the children are involved in Chess, Football, Computing and Basketball clubs. Our aim is to ensure all children have an opportunity to attend some of our exciting after school clubs we have to offer here at Kingsley.
Homework
Reading Plus – At least 3 books to be completed
TTRS – At least 5 sessions per week to be completed
Spellings – 10 spellings weekly
Maths – Fluency sheets to practice skills learned that week (only occasionally)
Year 5 like to keep their Twitter feed up and running so come and have a look at what we are up to in our class at @KingsleyLpool #Class5R
